Threads asking "what pistol should I buy"

This type of thread is nonsense, like asking what is the best car for your purposes without any more information. The answer to the car depends on a bunch of variables, how many people, how much gear will you haul, how far, how often, driving style, money to spend, how fast do you drive, traffic congestion in your area, projected fuel costs etc, etc, etc---

When you ask what kind of gun, please include some practical info.

Good point, Tom....I am hoping to purchase one or two in the fall.

It is the third year wanted to, but the budget would not allow the expense...

Even better yet, is to go to a hand gun site.....

I would say something between

.22 ------ 50AE

that should narrow it down for you.

The one that YOU LIKE. The one that FIT'S YOUR HAND.

And the biggest one - THE ONE YOU CAN AFFORD.

Caliber? ANY ONE YOU CAN FIND AMMO FOR.

Better do it soon, cause in the coming months IT WILL BE TOO LATE.

Re: Threads asking "what pistol should I buy"

I think the first thing you need to think about is your experience level. Many recommend revolvers as a first handgun for new owners - which I personally think is a good idea. There are a lot of nice snub nose revolvers on the market that are light and easy to conceal. Taurus actually makes a nice 7 shot .357 Mag 2" snub nose revolver that is inexpensive. I prefer the .357 Mag snub nose revolvers over the .38 Special revolvers since the .357 Mag revolvers are built a little stronger and also give you the option of shooting .38 Special. I don't mind carrying a little extra weight - if I gain the option of chambering a more potent round and gain a little more durability.

If you have some experience with handguns and feel comfortable with a semi-auto, then there are definitely a ton of choices. Personally I have my range guns and then I have my conceal carry handguns. I used to carry large handguns - but decided to make a switch to a smaller caliber semi-auto that is easier to conceal and more comfortable to carry. I would say any caliber .380 ACP and up is fine for self defense situations, with each caliber having their own pros and cons.

My wife shoots a Bersa Thunder .380 which is a great handgun. I ended up picking up a second one, for myself, for the times when my other handguns feel too bulky or heavy to carry. I guess it depends on body type - but I find single stack handguns to be more comfortable to carry since they are thinner...

As has been stated before in other posts - I highly recommend finding a range that rents many different types of guns, so that you can be sure that you will actually like what you buy. We did that for my wife since she had a tough time racking the slide on many guns - and she decided she liked the Bersa Thunder 380 after shooting about a dozen or so different guns. She hasn't been shooting for very long and she is actually an amazing shot with that Bersa!

Good Luck!

Discouraging newbies from asking questions is not a wise move. Let them ask, and let us educate!

Who said anything about discouraging questions? I'm saying there are as many different ideal guns as there are types of people and that just asking the ideal gun (or caliber :moon:) with no other information about yourself makes as much sense as asking "how high is up".

We don't need a biography, just something like:

sex
age
experience level
intended use
how much $ to spend

Noobs are such noobs that they don't even realize they need to provide info for the decision.

That is why they are noobs.

I understand that, but if I were a newbie and read your OP, I'd be discouraged. Let them ask "stupid" questions...there are none. Newbies are supposed to be ignorant.

Buy a Glock; your opponent will clean your clock.

I'll never buy a Glock...that's not to say I wouldn't take one for free.

THERE IS ONE STUPID QUESTION.

The one you DON'T ASK.

Just sayin...
